Painted Top Table

Super Renaissance Revival walnut Victorian candlestand.  The top features a painted scene of a woman holding a basket of flowers.  The outer rim of the top has several bands of line inlay inside a curved ebonized edge.   A Raised burled horizontal panel decorates  the skirt.  The bottom of the skirt is adorned with four shaped gilt incised drops.  The entire fancy base is beautifully and profusely decorated with carved round buttons, ornate turnings, gilt incised carvings and burled panels.  There are four original brass castors on the feet.  This is a superior designed and crafted tables, almost certainly made by one of the fine New York manufacturers of the period.  I would suspect Pottier and Stymus but have no proof.   In the 1870′s, some exceptional bases were made by New York companies.  Oftentimes, pietra dura or micro mosaic tables were purchased from Italy to go on them.  The painting suggests to me that it was made by an Italian artist specifically for this table.  It is very special and I have never seen another one like this!
