Fabulous solid quartered oak library table attributed to Merklen Co, NYC. This company was noted for the “magical” way they were able to fit a wooden ball inside of a metal foot. This table has a quarter round rope molding around the surface and bottom of the skirt. There is a drawer in the middle of the skirt on one side. The original ornate cast brass hardware on the drawer features faces on each side. The legs and cross stretcher have a bold rope turned shape. There are faces on the metal feet. The top has a very vibrant tiger oak grain. A great example of Merklen’s work!
