Griffin Mahogany Secretary

Fabulous solid mahogany slant lid secretary attributed to R.J. Horner, NYC.  There is a “secret” drawer just below the top with a lions head carved in the center.  When the lid is lowered a lovely interior is revealed featuring three curved drawers, cubbies and two decorative columns.   There are three curved drawers beneath the writing surface with two flat front drawers beneath them.  Each of these drawers is opened with a carved wooden pull.  Two large standing full figured open mouthed winged griffins are prominent in the base.  These are one of the most refined of the R.J. Horner motifs with intricately carved detail.  The entire desk reflects the skill in carving that Horner was known for!    Circa:  1890   Dimensions:  46.5″H x 42.5″W x 22″D.   Finish:  Good original finish with a rich dark patina.  Some normal tiny chips and scratches in the finish.   Price:  $10,750.00
