Gargoyle Partner’s Table

Fabulous carved mahogany partner’s library table/desk attributed to R. J. Horner, NY.    The top has an intricate band of carving on the inside edge.  The curved skirt has lion head carvings with two on each side and one on each end.  Each side has an opposite drawer with one of the lion heads serving as a pull.  Notice the mahogany bottoms on the drawers (see photo).   This wonderful top is supported by four large full figured standing gargoyles.  Each has an intricate open carved legs, tail and wings.  There is a raised center stretcher with a carved edge.  R. J. Horner made some of the best quality carved figural pieces of the period.  The gargoyles here, showing great carved detail, are one of his most dynamic carved motifs.  Circa 1890    Dimensions:  30″H x 55″L x 37″D.       Finish:  Fair to good original finish with normal wear.   Price:  $9650.00
