Faux Princess Chest

Wonderful Victorian full size faux bamboo princess chest.   A faux bamboo molding surrounds a rectangular mirror with a double tiered spindle turned top crest.  A round candle shelf with attractive curved side and bottom supports is on each side of the mirror.  Original beige colored marbles are in the middle and on each side.  The two side marbles have beveled edges and cookie cut rounded front corners.  There are two small drawers on each side and one large drawer across the bottom.  The two top drawers have gorgeous satin wood interiors (see photo) and are opened by a key.  Fancy carved round pulls are used to open the lower drawers.  The side columns have fluting, graduated feather carved bottom section and a double series of horizontal small buttons as decoration.  Notice that an original ebony stain was used to accent the fluting and rings in the bamboo turnings.  Princess chests (chests with full length center mirrors) are rather rare and very functional.   This came from an estate in Westfield, Massachusetts.  This is more elaborate and better made than the more common faux bamboo pieces of the same period that were made by R.J. Horner.  However, I can’t make an attribution on this piece.    The best quality, rare form and incredible condition!   Circa:   1880.   Dimensions:  86″ H   x    62 ” W   x    19 ” D.   Condition:  Wonderful original finish and condition with a great mellow original patina.   Price:   $2550      SPECIAL SALE PRICE:   $1695
