Set of eight Renaissance Revival walnut Victorian dining room chairs consisting of two armchairs and six sides. Each chair has a round turned spindle at the top with a carved crest in the middle. A burled shield is in the middle of each crest. The frames are decorated with incised carvings. The backs of the armchairs are upholstered while an oval burled panel rests in the middle back of each of the sides. The seat fronts are bowed and have a carved rosette in the middle. The casters on the armchair that is shown here are replaced. All of the other casters are original. Four of the side chairs have a lovely floral needlepoint fabric on the seats (see photo). The upholstery on all of the chairs is old but still usable. The underlining on one of the armchairs (in the photo) is a bit frayed. Several of the chairs are lose. When the buyer decides to reupholster the chairs, that would be the time to have them re-glued. Several of the feet in the back had been lightly chewed so we had a half inch of walnut added to make them smooth and balanced. There are a very few TINY chips in the burled veneer – only noticeable if you look very closely. For some reason, walnut dining tables are not hard to find. Complete period chair suites, on the other hand, are something I have only found a handful of in all my years in the Victorian furniture business. With two arms and six sides this is a great find! Circa: 1870 Dimensions: 44″H x 25″W (arm) 39″H x 20″W (side) Finish: Excellent original finish with a rich old patina. Price: $5950.00 for the suite
