Carved Victorian Secretary

Fabulous walnut Victorian secretary with a slanted top.  The top surface has a burled rim with an octagonal faceted corner on each side.  The front drawer has a wonderful pull made out of ring and three curved carved leaves – very unusual.  The sides, back and front of the case, including the drawer, have intricate applied carvings with a multitude of flowers, roses, leaves, acorns and vines.  They have a unique and naturalistic design which would suggest a provenance of the art furniture made by the female carvers in Cincinnati Ohio in the late 19th century.  On the other hand, the incised carved turned legs have similar appearance to the high style Renaissance Revival Victorian pieces made by Philadelphia makers, Daniel Pabst and Allen & Brother.  There is a beautiful carving on the bottom stretcher that is fully carved on both the front and back (see photos).   Whoever the maker was, this desk features some of the best carving I have found on a Victorian desk!   Circa:  1875.   Dimensions:   36″H   x   30″W   x   24.5″D.   Condition:   Good original finish with a deep rich patina.  There are some small balls missing that decorate the legs.  Price:   $3650              CLEARANCE SALE PRICE:   $1650fr1 fr2 fr3 fr4 fr5 fr6 fr7 fr8 fr9 fr10
