Brooks Coffee Table

Gorgeous oval Victorian marble top coffee table.  It has a deeply carved skirt under the original white marble.  The base has a lovely round carved center column with applied buttons at the top and very ornate middle.  There are four bold carved legs with graduated round applied buttons on top.  It has a sellers stamp on the base (see photo) that is hard to make out but appears to say “Brooklyn” at the bottom.  Thomas Brooks was a famous Brooklyn, NY cabinetmaker and tables of this style are attributed to him.  Originally this table was of full height but it was reduced in height a number of years ago to create a more desirable coffee table height. Curved brass sheet metal supports were added to the underside of the legs to strengthen the structure (see photo).  This is a most beautiful and utilitarian table!   Circa:    1870   Dimensions:   20.5″  H   x   37.5″  L   x   28.5″ W.    Condition:   The marble has some light surface scratches and a few chips on the outer beveled edges.  The base has a lovely original rich patina having never been refinished.    Price:   $1695
